Welcome to Buttons 2 – 3 years

Buttons provides a safe and friendly family atmosphere for children aged 2 and 3. The children have the opportunity to learn through a wide range of play-based activities and experiences. We strive to work in partnership with parents to enable the children to develop their social skills, self-expression and independence.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The
children in Buttons are in the Early Years Foundation Stage. They are assigned to a Key Person who monitors their progress towards the Early Learning Goals. The Early Learning Goals relate to the six Areas of Learning and Development of the Early Years Foundation Stage: Communication, Language and Literacy; Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Creative Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. Most children will be expected to achieve the Early Learning Goals by the end of their year in Transition.

New experiences

Emphasis is placed on active, play-based learning with a balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities. The children engage in creative activities, songs, stories, role play and physical play both indoors and outdoors. The children use the Buttons garden for outdoor play and they also use the school grounds. The Key Person plans the next steps in the learning journey for each child based on their interests and stage of development. Their progress is recorded in Profile Books using photographs and written comments.
